I've been using Bias Peak to edit my sound files, but it's been 2 weeks that it's consantly crashing.
Tried deleting prefs and all that, same thing.
Can anyone suggest a nice alternative? Thanks!

iZotope RX4 Advanced - my go-to for deep sonogram restore/editing, resampling etc etc etc haven't seen anything better! Pro!
Sony Spectralayers Pro 3 - similar to RX4 maybe, but RX4 is better

    additionally good classics and standards:
Adobe Audition 3 (old, it has some features more that have been removed in future newer releases)
Adobe Audition latest like CC 7 etc.
    Sony Sound Forge 11 Pro
    Steinberg WaveLab latest

RX is very impressive for "sniper" tasks. For general tasks, not so much.
With RX, you always use another one

    Audacity is good, and free.

I can't believe peak is still around, btw. This crashing piece of crap drove me nuts 15 years ago and people are still using it? :wow:

I use DSP-Quattro and can recommend it alongside other apps that have been mentioned.

Depends what kind of "editing" (general term) you're doing. I've been using ADOBE AUDITION for 18 years for my chop n' cut, and quick creative-destructive editing. However, in the 90s it was called Syntrillium COOLEDIT PRO. There's a reason why Adobe bought it. ;-)

I mostly use it for choppin' up samples. When Samples came on a CD as 10 minute tracks, I found this program to be the quickest in zooming in on left/right corner, key binding, saving selection, and just getting around the entire waveform with absolute ease.

WAVELAB was used for mastering purposes, but definitely has powerful editing capabilities.

If you want to go FREE, go AUDACITY.

SOUNDFORGE is another great editor that was bought out from SONIC FOUNDRY by SONY. Again, ACID and SOUND FORGE were purchased for a reason. ;-)

I vote that you try AUDITION for your editing purposes, but there are many editiors out there now that are up to the job and then some.

P.S. - My reply was geared toward PC user. :)

It depends on what you're doing with sound, but to concur with others' opinions, Audacity is for-free and effective with essentials and more.

Ocen Audio is somehow commonly overlooked, despite its being for-free and made for all three platforms. It's great for drag/drop ripping of audio from video, among other things, and has spectragram and waveform views.

And yes, Adobe Audition is the penultimate, to me. It's a real pro audio application. Izotope can't be discredited, but Adobe's been working on this application for a long time.

Extra thanks to Stevitch for the ocenaudio tipp!
    Love it so far.
The mac version even supports VST and AU plugins and custom key bindings
The menu reminds a bit of Audition (of course it's not as sophisticated), yet it's a great and quick go-to wave editor to call from a DAW.
