I love using Sleepy Time Records VU-RMS meters @ http://sleepytimedsp.com/downloads
    [IMG]

and also Sonimus channel plugins Britson and Satson @ http://sonimus.com/products/
    [IMG]

But if I need something with more options [K-metering] then I use either K-Meter which is available for both Linux and Windows @ http://www.mzuther.de/en/software/kmeter/
    [IMG]

or TT Dynamic Range Meter > direct link to download @ http://www.dynamicrange.de/sites/default/files/DR-Meter%201_4a.zip Unfortunately TT DR Meter is available only in 32-bit, but you can purchase a newer version from Brainworx if you want.

What I also use often is Sonalksis FreeG Which you can download here as part of the Sonalksis bundle @ https://www.sonalksis.com/downloads.htm

All these plugins except Sonimus ones are freeware or GPL. Sonimus' prices are low or you can use Satson CM that comes with Computer Music, it's great. Cheers! :mates:

I use T-racks metering wich comes as single plugin in the bundle. Really easy to watch: Spectrum meter, rms, perceived loudness, level meter, phase and correlation meter. This is my go to meter + tt dynamic range to check the dynamic range.

Sleepy Time Records ones consume the least CPU of all of these, but are still exceptionally smooth, and great for gain-staging.

I forgot to mention RS-MET Track Meter @ http://www.rs-met.com/freebies.html I find all of these free RS-MET plugins rather useful and quality made. But I have a problem with Track Meter that it's not as precise as others. I have no doubt it could be calibrated for both VU and K-metering if one gave it some time.

There's also an 8 channel Trak Meter at K-Meter website @ http://www.mzuther.de/en/software/trakmeter/ that can be K-meter or peak meter.

    @ MYCbeats,

    *yes*

BUT... according to the desires or wishes of 'Webshark' :

I personally think that the 'Behringer Ultra-Curve Pro' would be somewhat 'heavyweight' instead of 'lightweight'. Moreover, it will hardly "leave on the Master Bus"...

...and this is for the most recent Version : 'DEQ 2496', because if you use a more earlier Version, as for instance, the 'DSP 8024' :

that same 'Master Bus' runs the risk to collapse !!! *yes*

It has some uses in a live setup if you have a non-adept engineer, but apart from that I'd stay away from it.

The Ultra Curve Pro is useful in the following situations, in Daws that require you to load an RMS meter (So I use it in FL but not Studio One), and to check the RMS and frequencys of tracks you listen to on the web.

Now there is a bit of calibration to do with it as with all hardware, I boosted the input gain on mine so a peak of 0db in the computer would reflect 0db on the unit, but since you can only increase by .5db increments im like .3db off. So be ready to do some quick mental subtraction to read the RMS levels.

Even if you dont use it, its a cool thing with lights that dance around lol.

How I have it set up is that the master output from my 1818vsl goes into my Presonus monitor station, which drives the monitors, the Monitor station then has a master out (which isn't affected by the volume knobs, supposed to be used for a digital recorder or something) that I'm using to feed the Ultra Curve, therefore saving a pair of outs on my 1818vsl for other gizmos.

To further drive my point: I USE IT AS JUST AN ANALYZER THAT IN NO WAY AFFECTS SOUND (the outputs from it are not even connected to anything).

All in all one of the cool things that I recommend from Behringer, I got mine on ebay for around $150
