This is not the classic "stuck MIDI note" also known as "MIDI note hanging". This is different. I do know from some digging around that this problem has existed from time to time since Kontakt 2.

What's happening in my case is that when I play notes on my keyboard, I notice the notes on the Kontakt GUI remain depressed and do not return or "bounce back" off. As I continue to play the notes start stacking up until, eventually some notes do not sound at all or there's a noticeable delay.

This doesn't occur with all the libraries but it does occur a lot with 8Dio libraries, among others. When I look into the editor... I cannot see anything obviously out of the ordinary, but I'm not a Kontakt wizard either.

Does anyone know of this and a cure for it?? :wow:

Sounds like maybe your Midi Controller? Never had that problem certainly not with any 8dio products either :dunno:

i have experienced the same thing. i don't know of any fix. the problem just usually goes away after a while. when i notice that one of the keys on the gui is stuck, i just hit that note again on my keyboard and it's unstuck. usually i only have to do that a couple times and i don't see the problem again until the next time i fire up kontakt. the only thing i can think of is that kontakt is not seeing the note-off messages from the keyboard. but why? i don't know.

Its a known and long standing intermittent bug in Kontakt....

In fact in several of the commercial library "walkthrough' videos, the presenters can often be heard mentioning this, explaining its not a problem with their library but with Kontakt itself.

Maybe one day NI will get around to fixing this intermittent behavior

This. In spitrire audio videos you can hear them mentioen that it's just a graphical bug and has no impact on playing

Yes, this is entirely Kontakt issue.
Versions up to 5.1.0 were free of this bug. Starting in 5.2.0 and it's still not fixed...

that's not true. the note remains stuck until you hit the same note again. that definitely has an impact on playing.

Then your issue is entirely different to the graphical bug that is often reported.... as that graphical bug has no impact at all on actual notes and their playback....

Typically such a real 'stuck note' bug (compared to the graphical bug) is caused by the use of those cheapo Midi to USB cable type interfaces, poor quality or incompatible Midi drivers for a midi interface/OS combination... or some other conflict going on between device/controller and DAW.

Having used Kontakt for many years now, I have never had any 'stuck note' issues with it... The only bug of that nature i have come across has been the graphical only bug... or issues with a couple of libs that had poorly programmed / buggy implementations.

    And likewise,

It's not an issue with Kontakt (because it's not something that many people have reported..) but something specific to your setup.. Most likely your midi interface... some kind of conflict like a midi driver installed.. or a driver related to your external midi controller....

Again, the graphical bug is something different to what you are reporting.. and it's important not to confuse the two as one is not related to the other...:)

So, which midi interface/controller are you using?

well, my only response to that is that my cheapo midi to usb cable and poor quality midi drivers have worked flawlessly on over 1,000 different free, inexpensive and overpriced vst instruments. the only one that has ever exhibited this "stuck note" behaviour is kontakt. so for you to draw the conclusion that it can't be the software and must be my hardware is just plain ignorant.

How did I know you had one of those el cheapo midi to usb cable type interfaces... if it wasn't for the fact, this is a common issue with them under certain circumstances?

    Im not a mindreader....... :)

It's going to be an issue that is specific to your setup be it hardware or conflicting software.... but if you choose to believe otherwise, that is your prerogative of course...

One of the weird things is.. people spend small fortunes on Computers to run DAWs and then only spend a few bucks on a cheap midi or audio interface.

It's kind of like buying a 100+K car and then putting 40 buck tires on it and wondering why the car performs like a Kia...

    1) you have no clue what you are talking about.
    2) i have a high quality midi controller that has served me well for several years. i just used your words because you thought that by insulting my rig you could explain away the flaw with kontakt.
    3) your reading comprehension skills suck. either that or your ability to use logic sucks. if someone uses the exact same hardware with over 1,000 different vst instruments, and only one of those instruments exhibits a "stuck note" issue, logic indicates that the problem is not the hardware. if i were you i would stay away from any career that involves troubleshooting.

As I said, it's your prerogative to believe what you wish to believe.... but the reality is, you are misguided.. and are wasting your time hunting for an issue with just Kontakt... in regards to your specific problem.

I was quite happy to try and help you locate the exact issue.. be it a conflict on your system.. a weird driver issue conflicting with Kontakt and something else.. or something deeper in your system thats causing this strange problem.. that hasn't been reported elsewhere to any notable degree... but you have already discounted any skills I may have at such troubleshooting so I'll leave you to it....

    Good luck never-the-less....
