Hey guys,

when working with strings sometimes I wish I could just play the chords and it automatically assigns each note to a different instrument. Like the top one to first violin, the bottom note to the bass (or cello and bass) and so on. Is there any script in Kontakt that does that?
I'm starting to learn basic Kontakt programming do you think it is very hard to do that? I really don't have a clue where to start.

Just curious because it would improve a lot my workflow. Thanks for any help.

 

So, if the second note in the first chord you play is the third note of the second chord you play...or any combination thereof...ummm...

 

I think Orange Tree's Intuition is supposed to do that (not out yet).

Gramofon, that looks great! But it's been two years in development... hope it comes out one day. I want something a lot more simple, doesn't need to rearrange the notes for me I can do that, I just need it to assign them so I don't need to play like four or five times every time I am doing chords with strings or woodwinds. As I don't know much I thought about doing separate scripts for each instrument, one for the first violin reading only the top note no matter how notes I'm playing, another for the second violin reading only the second top note, ect. So I could send them all to the same channel and just play the chords.

 

Wow! What a massive undertaking. It will be interesting to see/hear how this plays out.

 

the only one that does that are Audiobross LASS, Audioz had only a strip of version 2, but in version one there is the auto-arranger strings.

To perhaps avoid to spend hours and hours to create some too complicated or sophisticated 'Kontakt Scripts', why you don't try to use some Keyboard 'Splits' Options for that purpose, or in some cases, use different 'MIDI Channels' for each of your desired Instruments.

 

How many groups does your instrument contain? or do you mean like u have three seperate instruments open in Kontakt?

 

its a multi with violins 1 & 2, violas, cellos and basses
5 chord note = 5 different instruments

 

Yeah, but the cracked version is full of bugs, at least mine, I can't control more than one instrument at a time with keyswitch. It always goes wrong. So I'm using LASS but with instrument banks instead

Yeah but the advantage would be make normal chords in the keyboard and they assign automatically to each instrument, because the instrument range is not separated, we have the same note in 3 or 4 instruments, so I would have to separate like an octave to each instrument and have the biggest hand in the universe to play the chords. . I already use a separate Midi Channel for each instrument, just trying to improve it and maybe learn a bit of scripting.

Yeah, when doing orchestral stuff for example I have already a template with everything set up for strings but five instruments (Doublebass, Cello, Viola, Violin 2, Violin 1). One instrument channel for Kontakt (Pro Tools) and one midi channel for each instrument and I use instrument banks to control the articulation of each one in Kontakt (stacatto, pizzicatto, legato, ect).

In this case, why don't try to use, as a 'starting point', the Script named 'Chord Splitter' provided as 'Factory Script' within 'Kontakt 5', and that you can find inside the Folder : 'Performance'.



Maybe you can 'assign' ('split') each of your desired Instruments to different 'Groups', thus allowing you to play your Chords as desired...

 

Chord Splitter works and is cool. Problem is as it's a multi (I asume) u gonna need a big ass multiscript AKA orange tree mind control etc to make it work.

Also certain commands in the Multiscript don't work like note on off etc as all about proceesing midi events. Also depends on your midi controller

So your idea of getting certain instruments to play across a chord

Don't quote me as I know little about multiscripts & possibly totally wrong it's about the only way around the problem I reckon & then it gonna be one hell of a tricky script to write.

Hence my suggestion to use 'Chord Splitter' as a 'starting point'. From that Script, maybe 'Ankh' can use some of the 'Functions' included within other 'Scripts' available to create the ultimate one of his wish...

I remember that when I wanted to learn and use some Kontakt 'Scripts' in the past, from time to time, I 'merged' some Functions of several 'Scripts' into one to get it suited to my taste. Sometimes, I even took as 'starting point' some included in 'commercial' Kontakt Libraries, then I simply added (or deleted) the Functions that I wanted to keep (or delete). *yes*

 

Will be a way round it, will take a look at it & have a think tho can't promise anything & yes Studio that also a possibility that could work. *yes*

 

There is a midi plugin, midiPolyphony - For spreading polyphony across MIDI channels, i.e. if you play 4 notes, each one will go to a different channel. Polyphony per channel can be set from 1 to 16 notes for more flexibility. You can also use it to convert polyphonic input to monophonic output

It is not a kontakt script, but you can insert this midi plugin in a midi track setting your keyboard as input and kontakt as output. It's free.
Or, if you use protools, menu Event - event operation - select/split notes

I tried the midiPolyphony with ProTools via the Vst Adapter but it didn't work. I've totally forgotten the split notes in Pro Tools it actually helps, thanks, though it could be easyer with a script.

Thanks! I will try that, what I was looking for is exactly a start point, though I'm new at this and it will probably take a while if I could make anything at all lol. Anyway I get back to you. Thanks for all your help!
