Audio Technica for sure, AT20xx series, cant tell exactly which with out seeing if it has switches.

All in all its nothing special

The shockmount appears to be attached to the little nipple that sticks out of audio technica mics.

 

May I suggest you refrain from commenting on something you have no idea about, it's a Sony C-800 and the appendage is a cooling system which is SOMETHING special for a studio microphone.

Seriously, you don't even correctly spell Audio-Technica let alone correctly identify it. This "all in all nothing special" Sony is ten grand.

Sorry for being harsh, but that "For sure" and "Nothing special" just got me.

 

JFYI, nothing sticks out of AT20x0 series.

 

That ( in the picture ) is the microphone used in Redman (Reginald Noble) and Method Man (Clifford Smith) multi platinum album ''Blackout'' and also used in ''doc's da name 2000'' ( Also multi platinum ).

Both album were recorded with that Sony mic.

The MIcrophone was placed facing the trident consol ( Same room ....no booth ).

Behind the rapper was a simple bathroom(The one we all have without a bath or a shower ) with the door open.

All of those redman platinum album sold were recorded like that.

I'll start rethinking about my ways of creating music .....stoping to see everything so technicaly and let it flow wherever i am .

 

In fact it's the great sony ,few copies were released ,it's the one to go for very few fortunate engineers in the world ,you can never afford one!!!!

 

Little fun fact: The Sony C-800 is allegedly illegal in Germany
(no, really... but not because of it's price but apparently because of some parts of the cooling mechanism.)

It's a Sony C-800g. That's the mic Kanye West used for recording his latest album. Sony doesn't produce it any more, it was around 10k.

If you mean RoHS, no it's not illegal to own one.

 

It's a common higher end microphone and by no means "for a very few engineers in the world". Compared to others in this league (47?), it's controversial.

He could always rent one, btw. No need to buy all of them mikes.

 

So, after you IDed the expensive mike, you started thinking why all this crap is really necessary? You may now ponder what other factors make the record a platinum one. Tssk-tssk...

 

yes a Sony C 800 about $8.000 dollar tube used a lot with R&B singers

 

Would be fun if it ended up being a Superlux E205 or the tube variant of it :P

 

Isn't even close to it. It's like cars or aircraft. Someone who works with these things would make out the model instantly while an average person would not.
