    Hi guys!

What is your favorite way to make 808 subs? You know, this kind of sub kick that you can hear a lot in trap.
I tried really hard to come up with good 808 for my new trap track but... i just can't, can't do it, can't find good samples blah blah blah... But anyway, i would be very happy if you guys show me your way to do it or the samples you are using. *yes*

    Thank you in advance
PS: Sorry for my bad english, correct me if i make mistakes :)

A simple Sine wave if you want a clean sound. Or a Saw wave with distortion if you are looking for a Dirtier sound. Simple as that. I had the same problem n asked myself why did it not sound like the rest of the trap songs i hear. The answer is the "Key" it was on. Only in certain keys you can write a sub that hits that sweet spot. For example if the key is too low the bass would be present but not very audible. N if its too high its gonna sound very thin. So my best bet is to pick a song you like n then use ur sub n figure out where on the keyboard the bass has the biggest punch, or the sound you are looking for.

Pick any synth, Set the osc to sine wave, for the envelope, set the attack to 0, use decay to control the length of your 808, sustain to 0, release to 0.
If you get any clicks, increase the attack and release a little.

    Then saturate to taste.

Saturate a low-tuned sine wave. Occasionally, I will layer with a saw.

    Thanks for replys :)
After doing what you both said, how do you EQ your bass? Do you keep the mid/highs?
And last thing : A lot a 808 sub samples that i find have a nice clicky attack that add little bit of punch to the kicks. How do i get that effect?

As always thank you in advance. Stay awesome

You can get a nice attack with a pitch envelope and set attack 0%, decay 1-4%, sustain 0% and release 0%.

Or just use a sample :P

Turn off your "cut at zero crossings"-option, and then cut at maximum amplitude at sample start (if you are working with a (say) 50Hz sine wave audio). The rapid jump in amplitude will make a nice click.

Or add a very fast pitch envelope to your sine, going fast from high pitch to low pitch. That's how most "kick synths" work, and also how a kick drum work acoustically/physically.

Or just layer a transient to your "clean" sine. A very very short hi-hat, clap, smack, tap, whatever will do fine.

There is a plug in by shack audio called Transient shaper (fairly cheap) n alot of the trap guys use that to get sharp attacks on the kick/808

to get the initial part of the sub loud, you have to modify the pitch of the initial hit through automation. I personally use sylenth with pitch AB automation on the delay. The click doesnt sound irritating like is does with the adsr, and makes the punch even further enhanced when you transient shape/compress. You can use overtones from saws like other people suggested too, just depends on your preference.
