Looking at the specs it seems that Rokit 6 G2 which i have is 100w and the VXT is 90w. I want to get better monitors and been looking at the VXT but I also want them to be a little more powerful.. Am I looking at the wrong info?

Well, from specifications, VXT(assuming you look at vxt6) model is more powerfull by 22Watt. VXT6 has 90W total output and Rokit 6 G2 has 68W, so in theory should be louder, although probably not drastically.

Yea thanks I ended up finding the correct specs. It seems as though the frequency response is slightly better on the Rokits, but most reviews and the price would suggest the VXT is a much better speaker. The 6 is what im looking at yes.

Np and yes i think it's safe to say, VXT's are better monitors, sound quality wise(built quality you never know)

 

Why do you feel you need more powerful speakers?

Whats not working for you with your current speakers?

How large is your room they will be used in?

Is your room treated, if not then do that first. You will get way more benefit from that than from just getting bigger/better speakers in a crap acoustic space.

Assumming that you want these for monitoring and not for use while dj'ing as a pa then i would be looking at frequency range(are you making dance music, then you want to be able to get the low bass), soundstage, etc, etc before max output levels.

If they are for monitoring then you should be using them at a level much lower than their max level, your ears will thank you later

Just realised that these speakers are quite old now, the soundonsound review of the vtx6 is from august 2008, there has been loads of excellent speakers released lately, maybe extend your search to some more modern speakers.

Yes the room is treated very well by a renowned acoustical engineer. These like the current KRK's will be used as my secondary monitors for mixing but as my primary monitors for writing and production. Its time for an upgrade I am tired of the rokits. NS10 along with auratones are my primary mix monitors.

Yea I want a little more low end the low end tends to crap out the the rokits I hear the low end on the VXT is tight and clean.

They are quite old but they still seem to very popular. I was going to go with the 8's but they are too big i think maybe the 6's and sub later on.

 

Talking about watts makes no sense. We're not playing go fish here.
You have to put the monitors in your studio and compare them there. Everything else is baloney.

 

I signed in just to say this - please do look into other monitor brands.. My friend recently got a pair of big rokits and I didn't like them

i have listened to yamahas before and i kinda think they are better than krks..its my opinion and i use a lot of vst synth, record bass guitar and has done some vocals including mine...

i hope someone will shed some light on whether my ears are correct!

 

well i didn't read this...anyways even for secondary solution there ought to a better option than krks....genelecs maybe?

 

Don't want to go off topic in relation to question, but yes there is probably better options these days like Equator D8, which is one of best value for money you can get for 750$ pair.

With a 1G budget, I'd try to snatch a used pair of Genelec 8030. It's a 5" speaker, but they do deliver stunning bass. I feel they'd become your main monitors.

I have the VXT8's, and I love them. Always translate to other systems. I would definitely avoid the Rokit line as they definitely color the sound far more. The VXT8's may have some pleasant mid range boost a bit, but translates.... And I get far far less fatigue using these monitors then a lot of others. Sure, there are better monitors out there, without a doubt, but for a mid range budget, the VXT line has been great for me.

that Watts crap u said doesnt make any sense. i bet u will never get to the max vol of it anyways unless u wanna be deaf in a few months down the road. get ur music right, u dont need expensive monitors..,

look at Dannic, Knife party, and mn more producers when they started...

Watts is nothing to compare studio monitors by because you wouldn't (and shouldn't) ever crank them louder than like 30-40% max volume.

Watts is more used for PA monitors at gigs, then they mean how big of a rooms you can get a good levels in.

I like KRK, they make something half-way between studio monitors and hi-fi speakers, so they're good for producing, and mixing.

But if you're going to keep the pair you have, don't buy another set of KRKs, buy something else so you can reference across multiple speakers.

To me the exact opposite of the "KRK sound", is the Yamaha stuff. Then throw in some Auratones, and a monitoring station so you can flip through them.

All in all, for around a grand, you'll have 3 sets of speakers to reference with, which I think is better than putting Genelecs in an under treated room.

 

I was going to buy some Genelec 8040s off a friend recently but they seem to faitgue my ears quite quickly. The room is very well treated.. That was a huge budget. Because I dont mix exclusively anymore I dont mind getting some halfway decent speakers for writing, i just want a bit of bounce and punch in them.. Between the rokits and the NS10 I have done great mixes here that translate almost perfectly to the commercial studio I work at.

Has anyone got any experience with both the VXT and the 10-3?

 

The VXT model usually has more power than the same size Rokit. My Rokit 10/3's are under-powered for the way I like to use them (and I am in a relatively large room), but they are mid-field size, better for me. If I had the cash to do it over again, I would step up to a little more power of the VXT. Still, I can monitor my bass guitar or synth through my Rokit 10/3's, if I am careful. But sometimes I just want to rock a little louder/harder, or for personal listening I want Radiohead cranked just a little more....10/3's with a subwoofer might get it. I don't have a sub. I've also started letting my DBX Drive Rack™ "auto EQ" them for me, which smoothed them out better than I could. Hate to confess that.
