Most daws can import rex files without problems in a track! If its the extra features that RMX offers you that you´re looking for in an alternative application, Im affraid you´ll get dissapointed!

Why not just go with RMX?

    @ Mr Psanter,

Not exactly an 'alternative', rather a Great complement (in case you still don't use it regularly !) :

    'Propellerhead ReCycle' *yes*

The perfect tool for sampled grooves
Slice your sampled loops with ReCycle and turn them from rigid recordings to flexible musical elements that blend seamlessly with your music. ReCycle slices loops into their rhythmical components, letting you quantize, rearrange or totally reimagine your sampled grooves.

And for info, this was exactly 'Propellerhead' (via their 'ReCycle') which creates the 'REX' File Format !!! *yes*

    Hi Phloopy,

The only issue I have with RMX is that sometimes I'm unable to import some REX libraries for some reasons. Even after converting them with the Spectrasonics utility.

That's why I was looking for a VSTi that will allow me to do the same thing +/-.

Beside that, I still think that RMX rocks, especially since it's been released more than ten years ago.

    Hi Studio 555,

Recycle is great but it's a standalone app, not a VSTi. I was looking for something similar to RMX that will allow me to use and manipulate REX files inside my DAW.

    @ Mr Psanter,

    &
Here you have, Sir !

In this case, I can only suggest you to have a look (if not already done !) toward 2 Products from 'Equipped Music' ('e-LAB'), and as follows :

    * e-LAB Foundation

    * e-LAB Obsession

Both are available in 'VSTi' & 'RTAS' Formats, running under Windows.

    e-LAB Foundation

    e-LAB Obsession

Both were provided with their own Libraries (~ 4 GB of Content) and are able to import 'REX' Files (24 Bit). *yes*

They already amswered your question, your daw! Most daw can just drap and drop Rex file right into it, as slices or a loop! Reaper does it!

But if you absolutely want a drum pad or such, maybe Poise or Beatstation can load Rex file onto a pad layout.

Just wanted to add that stylus rmx will not import Rex files if they aren't named properly. Not sure, you would have to research the file structure, but I think the files can only be one folder deep and can't have a long name!

    @ Tater_one,

    *yes*

If these aren't provided already converted to be used within 'Stylus RMX' ('.audio' + corresponding '.xml' File), therefore that you use 'SAGE' Converter for that purpose, their names can't be longer than 31 Characters. *no*

And there's a maximun number of REX Files per folder ( around 64 i think ... not shure )

    I use Ableton
1- load the REX file on audio track ( session view )
2- right click your clip and select " Slice to new Midi Track"
3- It will ask "Create one slice per Rex Slice" ... select Build-In"

More simple than Stylus itself ( no drag/drop for the midi data, no audio routing if you use more than 1 channel, etc )

Will have to give it a try.

Thanks a lot to everyone's feedback!

    @ Suefreeman,

Tu n'as certainement pas à t'excuser... moi aussi !
De toute façon, nous sommes plus ou moins tous sur le même bateau ! ...et les fautes d'ortoghraphe sont 'monnaie courante' (même chez les 'purs' anglophones ! ), donc...
Mais heureusement, ce 'Forum' est international...

I believe the best alternative would be the Kontakt sampler.
If you have used RMX, you certainly don't want to miss the advanced editing and modulation options.
Kontakt is very powerful for RX2 manipulation.
Simply drag the RX2 files from the file browser into the instrument area.
Without further intervention, the loops will just play in sync with your DAW, but if you open the edit dialogs, there's a world of options!

Kontakt can even make ReCycle redundant in that it supports transient detection and manual/auto slicing too.

    For an example, see https://carillonaudio.wordpress.com/2012/02/04/rexifying-loops-with-kontakt/
