i know it's not a huge ampunt of work, but, is it asking to much to have modulation wheel automatically linked to instruments? i find it very puzzling that the 2 things that fl studio need to work on, the midi linkage ( every other daw is like 'falling off a log') and the mixer, both are practically untouched in new beta versions... graphically different is all it seems. you still have to link modulation every time you start fl. it may seem trivial, but it would make a huge difference to how much i would use it. anyone know why the midi implimentation is so lame? after all these yearrs? sigh...
I guess most DAW`s have their own niggles. You just gotta use the one that niggles you the least. Never "got" Fruity Loops" myself, might be worth having a moan on their site/forum, never know, someone might just listen/act. The other option......? Ableton!
theres a little trick in FL, load up a non FL instrument, browse parameters, find the mod wheel, right click, over-ride generic links, move your mod wheel on your controller, remove that instrument, save the project as a template. because the mod wheel has a standardized CC config, all instruments will now be able to be controlled by the mod wheel.
FL lack of Mixer pulled me out of this otherwise interesting DAW. I'm very surprise that after all these years and updates they didn't do any progress about it.
On the other side, i think a lot of ppl don't even mix in it They use FL Studio for electronic music (not so much recording), arrangement view (best DAW ever on this point), fun factor, piano roll (best, with Cubase one), midi tweaking/routing and more. On my side, for any serious audio multitrack project, i totally forget about Ableton or FLS. Studio One is what i use. But i still love FLS as fun and fresh "inspiration" DAW WHY
Try a serious audio mixing DAW like Studio One and you will see what's wrong with FLS mixer I don't even think what a modern progressive metal mix would be on FLS or Ableton...horror show. Around 64 tracks of real drums/triggers, double tracked dual guitars, guitar soli, keyboards, keyboard soli, bass, bass soli, vocals layered, samples, orchestral lines... Even grouping tracks (simple thing) is a mess in Ableton and FLS. No, really. Not for complex audio recording and mixing. Studio One, Samplitude, Reaper, Sonar... are better options by far.
Solo doesn't follow routings, Can you solo the sends and hear the effects?? if you mute a channel then solo another one when you unsolo the channel the previous muted channel become unmuted i think all the basic things are there in the FL Mixer but if you need something "more" there are better mixers, my last session in LPX has 150 tracks, 15 sends and 5-6 bus. Will be crazy to do like that in FL. Again FL mixer is really ok but nothing more S1 and LPX have better mixers.
i simply cannot use fl studio for serious mixing. i love fl studio for doing doodling and making loops and sketches but if i need to get a bit in depth with the midi and mixing, forget it. it's a shame because i do love it and use it a lot. it has some great features ( the edison editor, slicex, gross beat, harmour synth, maximus etc) but as the core functionality i need is still lacking i am doing more work in studio one and ableton now. thanks for the tips about the mod wheel anyway. makes things a little less annoying... : )
