The Question Is ::: Windows 8.1 64Bit is it compatible with all Daws & plugins (Like Cubase, FL Studio, Studio One, Reason ... Waves, Altiverb & ETC

The mean reason for my question is that Microsoft it's about to stop Supporting Windows 7 64Bit

I want to know if it is safe to upgrade to windows 8.1

    Thanks in Advance :mates:

Windows stop supporting win7?? Really who cares... The first thing i did when using win7 was disable Windows Update... Win7 was always stable and i feel comfortable with it. tried win10 and can't get graphic setting correctly... Wich reminds me a lot of Vista problems. I'll change my win7 when daws and plugins will stop working on it. Just my opinion

I believe that 8.1 support every daw, someone can confirm this?

I am pretty sure Catalyst mentioned once that he uses Windows 8.1 and has never had a problem.

I use Windows 7 and although I agree with Mostwest, I have run updates every time. But when it doesn't any more, most likely I'll stick with 7. That is, until I build a new computer, but that'll be a while for now, I'm pretty happy with my little beast!

One thing that I experienced is that XP was good, Vista was awful and 7 was great. I know 8.1 is stable, but I hate that Metro shit and it seems 10 will merge the goodness of 7 with the performance of 8.

I use both and don't have any problems. But there are bound to be plugins that won't work right. But in general, it is fine.

One Word ! ( MACINTOSH ) No serious why doesn't Microsdoft just stick to fixing upgrading one OS instead of pumping out new Os ? Just like a Car instead of working out the quirks on one model lets just keep making different ones
    Who Cares Ugrhhh Monolopy Shit

But Yeh Win 8.1 Supports just about every plug Daw you can throw at it Seems OK

I personally don't like all the updates stuff related to OSX. Mine version of 10.9.0 installed 5 months ago will be soon an old release. Updating can messup things and i prefer working with the exact same system for like 5-6 years and then when it become old i can get a new fresh pc and use the newest version

Mac was mentioned nowhere in this thread so the comment is off topic.

Well it's lucky then that it's an OS and not something your life depends on. You can say that about every developer on this planet. You think Macs have no problems? Ha! I've got a forum full of people that would disagree with you on that. The simple answer is that they're trying new things and they need money to fund development which they couldn't make by selling you an OS once especially considering how long people will use that OS. Case in point: I used XP for more than a a decade (and got support for it, something you will never find on Mac). Do I think that they can do better? Sure. There are a lot of areas that I would like to see improvements in but there is no doubt that Windows has come a long way. Windows 10 is looking pretty sweet and it's nothing like Vista...at all. It's basically a refined, souped up version of Windows 8 with a ton of amazing new features. Oh yeah and it's free.

Off the top of my head the only thing I have had a problem getting to work on Windows 8 was R2R's Soundtoys 4.1.8. However you can always use the 4.0.2 version which people on Mac are stuck with as well.

Some people I know are on 10 as we speak and they say it's the fastest thing they've ever seen. Looking good.

probably rather because it's an unfinished preview version...

8.1 and 7, in core, are the same windows (except some improvements in form of faster up time, visual appearance and, for me, nicely organized "start" screen)... 8 was designed to be used mostly by touch screen devices, but with 8.1 update (on request of users that have desktop devices, and under them i mean a LOT of users) they changed/improved original 8 with that "deskotp" after you log in (like in previous win), and other "app-like" programs they improved with close, minimize and other small improvements...
...so basically every program that you have been used on win 7, you can use with win 8

anyone feel free to correct me...

yes, i'm using win 8.1 x64 without any problem and with great stability.

I'm sorry but what!? If anything Apple is the one who is shitting out operating systems and platforms before fixing them, NOT windows. Every new apple version brings new compatibility rendering software buggy & unusable in many cases! This coming from a guy who owns a Macbook Pro, as well as a PC desktop.

Don't believe the hype, Windows 8.1 is great, rock solid stable! Pretty much all the programs I've thrown at it run and install perfectly fine, this excludes a select few old programs but nothing that I have ever cared to need. I love how windows 8.1 is set up, so many new features, settings are more easily accessible, GREAT for power users & casual users alike, I wouldn't go back to windows 7.

There are a few quarks, but once you fix them it's great, like change it to log in straight to desktop instead of tiles, so you won't even have to see the "touchscreen view" if you don't want to. You can right click and remove OR uninstall any tiles you don't want and they are gone forever. Also if you really want, you could download start8 or startisback if you miss the start bar, but personally I like installing as little as possible.

Honestly the people talking shit about windows 8 just don't get it, they log in and the tiles come up and they whine and complain and don't take the two seconds of research it takes to figure out how to never see it again. The general population are dumb and resistant to change.

@about OSX yeah thats why you can install Logic X below 10.9 lol

but you can install Ableton 9 on windows vista, which was released 9 years ago. hope this keeps you thinking.

Using Windows 8.1 64bit (b4 Win8) since its released and no problems.
    My DAW: Studio One.
I mentioned it in another topic:
I use 'Classic Shell' - so my Win8.1 starts right to the classic desktop.
    I prefer Win8.1 over Win7 (and I loved Win7).

I would be more concerned on weather drivers for your hardware work or are available with a new OS, rather then the software.
