    Hello,

As most of you know the Roland SH101 is now over 30 years old and does not have midi input capabilities only CV.

I would like to know if anyone is using it in the context where the CV gets converted to midi (if so let me know what conversion unit you are using) when sending out the midi data to the synth and then recording the audio output of the synth back into the DAW.

Should look something like this : DAW > Midi Interface > Midi to CV Converter > Synth > (Audio) back into the DAW.

If you guys could post things such any issues with conversions, additional latecy or any other problems you encounter, I would be really grateful

I havent done this but I read about it somewhere.

I can't remember the name of the exact product, but u might have to use a module from a modular synth for the conversion.

doing a quick google search for "midi to cv" came up with this:

    http://www.kentonuk.com/products/select/m-cvsel.shtml

There would be no additional noticeable latency compared to sending midi out to a midi device.

One limitation is that you cant do polyphony because of how CV works, but this wont matter to you since the SH-101 is monophonic anyways.

If youre also in the market for a new midi controller, the Akai Max49 has cv out and a step sequencer, plus its an all around fantastic device (I have one.)

Arturia Beatspep is also worth taking a look at.

The Kenton mentioned above has a USB model too.

Didn't all old Poly Synths have midi? My Rolands do, but my Korg MS20 (mono) doesn't.

Polys do have midi because you cant send like 1.5V, 1.7V, and 1.9V signals together over CV to make a chord, I'm guessing monos didnt get midi until closer to the more digital age, when midi became the standard.

As I previously mentioned there is a newer USB version of this item which may be more beneficial depending on the setup .. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may10/articles/kentonusbsolo.htm

Thanks for all the input everyone, appreciate you guys taking time out and sharing some knowledge and experience  .

Going to order the Kenton converter as soon as I can and maybe later on get one of the other controllers mentioned.

Being able to use the sound of the SH101 with midi clips grooving any way I like, I dont see it getting much better than that.

Everyone complaining about countries going into debt and what not, At this rate I think I will need a damn bailout to help me fight my analog synth buying addiction :D not to mention the vitamin d deficiency from living like a vampire in my man cave or like that DJ from "Its all gone pete tong" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITzkKjWMS1Y

Again thanks for the help guys :mates:

Might want to look into the NAMM premiered Korg SQ-1 sequencer which has all kinds of MIDI and CV inputs and outputs. People swear they use this Volca sized sequencer as a converter and for $99 I plan on grabbing one.
