    hey
back again with a small but vaguely annoying issue.
basically, when i am editing in the midi editor window the background grid spacing changes only when zooming in, i just cannot figure out why.. it's a little similar maybe to ableton's 'relative grid'
    help appreciated
    thanks
    oops, another little annoyance...
can i move the edit cursor independent of the play cursor?
i can't do stuff like split events etc, without the play cursor starting from the position where i clicked to edit..
( i hope that doesn't sound to confusing)
    ta

Your snap is set to adaptive, change it to quantize, then use the values from the drop down beside it to set the snap value.

I hate the adaptive setting because I use S1 for recording vocals and mixing, so if im moving anything its either by bars at a time or a microscopic nudge.

I wish Presonus would let you assign a keyboard shortcut to cycle through the different snaps like in Cubase.

i work with this pianoroll since 2 years, at first i got some problems and now i think is the best and the fastest, i always zoom a little bit just to be sure that every note is in the right position, you can edit correctly without zooming. maybe you need a little bit of pratice :dunno:

for the cursor stuff you should disable "Cursor follows Edit Position" wich is the icon next the big arrow

if you are working on the arrange view is better to leave "adaptive" and change only the midi editor quantize settings because they can be different

you should dig a little more on quantize settings, relative grid can't help you? maybe other settings can... :dunno:

if you open the quantize pannel you can assign a setting to a Program A, B,C.... i've used numeric pad as shortcut in my keyboard like this 1 for 1/16 2 for 1/8 3 for 1/4 and 5 for 1/1

Yes, I forgot to mention relative to grid.

Let me try this again: Basically, for recording and arranging, quantize to bar, relative to grid, any other moves or cuts you will need to make will be off the grid anyways.

the assignments you mentioned only apply to the piano roll, correct?

OK let's make things more clear:

What is your S1 actually doing?

What you expected from it?? What's kind of behaviour.

the assignments is applied to both the piano roll and Arrange view since the quantize values are linked

    i have practiced @ mostwest : 0
, i just wanted to smooth the workflow a bit as i don't have this kind of thing in other daws.. it's a small thing, i can work without it.
as for the cursor business, i have tried all sorts, for one thing i do not have the icon next to the 'follow' arrow on my screen. if i uncheck 'cursor follows edit position' ( i want the cursor to be independent of the play marker) it makes no difference whatsoever, whenever i click the play head goes to that point and starts playing from there. which is annoying particularly as i wwork a lot with wavs, chopping them up etc.. . again, you may think it's trivial, bit it's one of those bug bears that can get on my nerves.. believe me when i tell you i know a lot about daws and audio softs, so no need to patronise me about 'practice'. thanks for your help anyway.

yes you know your level however for the missing icon could be a bug or a resolution problem, maybe with V3 all these little stuff will be fixed

I found that you can disable the option from the pannel

as i said above, unchecking the option makes no difference to the way the edit and playback cursor behave.
i am only annoyed at things like this as you adapt your working method to the situation and the thing will be changed just when that shortcut is becoming second nature. still, will never be as bad or annoying as fl studio shortcuts... those try the patience of a saint... : )

ok now i get it, you want move differently the playback bar from the arrange view and the playback bar from the editor. It's not possible since they are the same playback cursor. However you should try to dig into some macros there are some transport command there.

however you can move things and slice thing in the editor without moving the playback position

i'm not a big fan of the editor. i'll use it only for midi, i make all the audio editing in the arrange view since the grid is not always visible in the editor

well, i sort of have my work around now, so i shall continue onwards.
i still think it's a great program in respect of being uncluttered like most other daws...
one thing i would like to see though is a way to float fx windows, some of mine do not fit on screen very well in the studio one effects window. again, a tiny thing, but one that makes life just a little bit smoother : )
    thanks again anyway
