What Piano pack in kontakt or even VST sounds really good that lets you substantially control the release? Currently using Truepianos but its not a very natural sound, even when i cut all the high frequencies.
None of the basic Kontakt ones like the gentleman, grandeur or maverick allow the release to be lengthened , and that realy kills the sound for me. i soak it reverb anyways, but i need a little more tail on my keys cuz i like deep chords.
id really appreciate any suggestions guys, cheers and happy new year!

    @ Torontoleech,

Some 'Commercial' or 'Professional' Piano Libraries (either 'Kontakt', 'GIGA',... , or as 'VSTi' Instruments) allow you to control the 'Release' of the Notes...
but FIRST, logically the 'Release' Samples must be included... *yes*

In this case, you certainly must to have the Option to 'assign' a 'MIDI CC' ('Continuous Controller') for that purpose. Thus, if you use a 'Sustain Pedal' (as External Hardware Unit) like these used in 'real' Pianos, you can control the 'Release' of the Notes as done by a 'real' Piano Player in a 'real' situation. *yes*

In your case, you must rather to use a 'Sustain Pedal' in form of 'MIDI Controller'... *yes*

Pretty much all pianos and/or Kontakt sample libraries, including TruePianos, aswell as many many synths have sustain (CC64).
Get a cheap sustain pedal and hook it up to your midi controller.

You need to activate sustain not changing the release time. As somebody already told you achieve this using the sustain pedal (CC64).
If you still want more than this than you can take a look at The Giant: Anatomy menu > Release Sample > move Decay slider to Long.
If you still want more click the XXL button in the Tone menu.
If you still want more you should consider a pipe organ.

    hello, all audio lovers,

perhaps worth to mention pianoteq, done by modartt (even with the somewhat high price).

all the best for all of us, including the customised sustain, release, of the all titanium made fifteen meter long concert piano model, standing vertically...

I think what you're asking has more to do, like others mentionned, with the sustain pedal.

However, if that was not the problem and you do in fact want to change release settings, the 8dio pianos (1928,1968) let you change those settings to your liking.

mdaPiano allows you to control the release. It doesn't sound the best, but it's FREE.

What kind of release are you talking about?
A Sustain Pedal holding the keys after you released them on the keyboard?
The natural release time *while* you play a key?
An unnaturally longer release time *after* you release a key?

1 can be fixed using a Sustain Pedal, as most have written already
2 can be kept at a more constant level using a compressor (limited by the actual sample time if it's not looped)
3 can be achieved by increasing Kontakt's Envelope Release time. Make sure all relevant groups are active before changing the release time in the Kontakt patch.

Many pianos are available for Kontakt anyway, so that might be a solution for you.
