Aside from price, why do you prefer using Windows over OS X?

Price are almost the same if you consider an AIO product. For me the reason is quite simple: I learned at school how to handle Windows XP and my first pc also had XP. I feel more confident and if there is an issue, I know or I can easily learn how to deal with it. :)

For me it is being able to choose exactly what hardware I install without having to slavishly follow Apples over priced hardware.

Windows never let me down, OSX does. it's a personal choice, like Ferrari or Lamborghini.

maybe, because everyday I see windows at home more often than apples on my table...I don't like apples too much...weeks, months and they are rotten...windows can be for many years, they protect you from wind, thiefs, noise from streets and cars. You see all the beauty of the nature thru your windows. Always warm at home. Apples can't do it.

After using Apple 'til they switched from 60xxx to PowerPc I was 'forced' to Windows just because i could't afford those fancy new PPCs. Surprisingly (and considering how bad Win98 was back then) I wasn't too disappointed. No matter what i wanted to do, no matter what the problem was, there was always a solution for. When I had apple it was more like 'ya can't do that with that machine, get over it'
As mentioned before I like the vast amount of hardware to choose from and all that software available. Apple users use to say (and I said that too) 'theres one program for the problem, but it works and does the job'. True, but having 20 Tools that work and do the job is better. Besides that: No matter what postpro facility I visit, they all have the same problems no matter Mac or PC. They're both just fucking computers :))

third and most important, are two threads really needed on the exact same matter?

One is enough if your aim was to cause a flame war, with two we'll have WW3 in matter of minutes :bleh:

    @ Native,

Firstly, as a 'Newbie'... Welcome Aboard ! :mates:

It was a time where a large number of Audio Apps (like some DAWs), FX & Instrument Plugins,... , were rather available for Windows PC before to be ported (thus available) for MAC OSX.

Another reason could be that, as about 70 % of the Computers worldwide are running under 'Windows', you can easily guess that as stated in the previous sentence, more Apps are available for this System versus MAC OSX... *yes*
But this kind of 'supremacy' has also its drawback : more 'Viruses', 'Malwares',... , and all these harmful things are more widespread in the 'Windows' World than in the MAC OSX one ! *yes*

I prefer Win O.S. because I prefer to build a Win-PC on my own, and because Apple stuff seems as perfect as boring (iTunes, iPod, iPhone... iOurLastStuffIsNewUntilYouBuyIt etc); except for warranty policies: so interesting. Right or wrong it is my opinion. :grooves:

i wasn't gonna hop in this thread cuz its gonna get ugly but this comment caught my eye... I just two days ago went to a store and for curiosity I said throw ur best cpu in a computer (desktop) with 16 gigs of ram and show me what i can get for what price. Guy says 4.0 i7 quad core 16g ram dual monitors bla bla for 880 bucks. As a loyal apple user for many years, when he told me that price I gave him a raised eyebrow The Rock imitation. Where the hell is the 880 dollar iMac with dual monitors and 4.0 i7 with 16g of ram? I want it lol. I use macs because at the time when I made the swap windows was plagued with viruses and was highly unstable;thus I moved from windows (forgot what os it was but it was almost 10 yrs ago) to linux then mac. I don't know anything at all about PC but I am extremely curious if its more stable now and if I really could have a nice beast of a pc for less than a grand (or a little over) and produce music hassle free.

"Stability" it's not just a matter of O.S. itself, it's also a matter of how it's handled and maintained by the user.

I've actually responded to this question in excruciating detail in an essay somewhere around here. Because Apple sucks at life.

There are toooooo many reasons to list. I'll make some highlights:

    1) More hardware.
    2) More software.
    3) More cracked software.
    4) More games.
    5) More customizability.
    6) Apple is the devil. Do you REALLY want to support this company? They are evil incarnate. Only thing that works well at Crapple is the marketing department churning out legions of braindead hipster fanboys. :bleh: Sorry that just came right out. I can delete if necessary. Some people can call this a subjective snarky comment. I call it a painful truth. :(
    7) The fact that practically no big business uses OS X and there's a reason for that. I know this well having worked for some serious companies that would laugh at you if you suggested using OS Hex.
    8) *** Almost every single DAW runs better on Windows than they do on OS X and it's not slightly better, there's a serious performance increase. In that essay I wrote there are links to benchmarks in which OS X got burned to the ground and so did Core Audio vs. ASIO.
    9) Apple writes shitty software with corny, tacky interfaces. Sorry I couldn't help myself. :(
    10) Windows 10 is here. No reason to use OS X...at all.
    11) Windows is more secure at this point. Before anyone says anything to the contrary keep in mind that Windows is simply more of a target due to market share. Apparently malware writers find OS X as insignificant as I do.
    12) Windows is solid as a rock at this point. Don't listen to the BSOD BS. It's what the lamers use to try to dissuade you from Windows. They're stuck in the 90s or something. I've been using Windows 8 for 1 year now. BSODs: 0. Crashes: 0. BSODs are almost always driver related anyway so it's not Microsoft's fault.
    13) Apple caters mainly (not everyone but this is their target audience) to people that can't be bothered with learning how to use their computer. That's why they do all the thinking for you to your own detriment.

    I could keep going...

Cat... Amen Brother. My short version is that I prefer Windows systems because I like to customise my system without hassle. I can open the case and move bits asking to my contempt. I hate that Macs pretty much don't allow customisation. The other day I helped a friend setup his email signature with his logo. And that was a nightmare to achieve.

    What has already been said.
+ I've always used it (since MS DOS days) and it's never been broken, so I've never had to fix it.
And if it needs fixing I know how to fix it.

For me, using windows is being in control of my computer; using mac os is being there with the computer, sharing the mac experience. I don't want that.

Having the privilege of getting a slice of the unique MAC experience.

    Fixed.

    *(That's pretty much Apple's attitude)

    lol @ that

for me, aside from the price nothing is holding me back

mac is like a car, just to overpriced to keep it running,
less free open software, lack of cracked software, upgrading hardware is a no go
