I received a batch of .wav files to mix for an album. The artist has a huge following but literally records in his bedroom (honk).
The microphone he used to record the vocals has an overwhelming amount of high-end above 10 kHz (I’d say 12–17 kHz). On some tracks, however, he decided to apply a high-cut filter to the vocals, so the voice blends better into the mix.
On the tracks, if I apply a 12dB roll-off at 10kHz, the vocals sound better but the track loses its brilliance; if I use...
I need a good tutorial about compression... Definitely.
I got the notions (the basics) of it:
Attack: How long does it take to compressor to compress.
Release: How long does it take to compressor to stop compressing and release the signal untamed.
Knee: Curve or peak of compression.
Threshold: From which decibels on you want to apply the compression.
Ratio: How much compression ratio you want.
But, said that, for years I've been struggling to apply that knowledge to my music with more...
