Hi! I brought the Rookit KRK G4 8" and AUDIENT iD24 and when I lauch Live or After Effects or sometimes even without noticable reason a crazy hiss appears in the monitors... I know the KRK have a hiss from start but how it suddenly mess like this???

 

Should I change monitors? I have until this week end to send it back...

By the way I have a new tune playing to share:

 

Loopback maybe.
How all your connection looks?
Is your computer connected to the same socket as interface? Maybe try different electric socket for every audio hardware.
Maybe take pictures of all your connections and plugs you use with audio.

If this is not user error it looks like something is wrong with them and it will be recommended.

 

Exchange them.

 

Do you hear hiss without your computer or anything hooked up to it?

I would go through a process of elimination starting with nothing, then cables, then interface, the computer etc... as their can be different mojo going on.

One problem I have had with a pair of KRK VXT8's that I like, is that they aren't shielded the best... so if you are in particular areas, especially urban ones or with certain other things in the room.... there would be some problems...

but I was able to get that all down through location changes and swapping out some cables and new usb hubs and whatnot when I rebuilt a room back in 2017-18 or so...

 

Without hearing it, have you by any chance been making any changes for the powering equipment, ie. Add another source for electricity(different plug from the wall)

 

it's probably your cables acting as antennas

 

This is a real foto of Sacculus and his musical partner. My expert opinion is that they should first remove their hats when in proximity of the monitors and see if that does the trick, and if not, we'll go on from there.

Use the process of elimination. This may, or may not help. But it sure feels satisfying.



Now on a more serious tone... Start with connecting only the basics, like speakers. Switch them on without anything connected, then connect the iD24 to it. iD24 should have nothing connected at first. Then proceed to connect cables into iD24 and see what happens.

My suspicion is that it's Rockit's, since I've heard about them having problematic amps quite a few times.

I wanted to quote OP, but failed miserably.

 

bad capacitors hiss quite a bit, but troubleshooting your chain is the only way to find the source and remedy it...

 

First check with no audio other audio programs open. Test with a wav or mp3 in your audio player. Then check in a different DAW or wave editor like Audacity. Confirm the problem in a project with no audio files and plugins loaded. Then load a file and see if you hear it then.

Anything cracked incorrectly or expired demo may hiss. Any kind of plugin that has something self-oscillating can also do this with playback stopped, but that's usually not described as a hiss and more like a noise.

Or easier, reconnect your old monitors instead of the KRK's. That will rule out everything but what is being output from the computer/audio interface.

 

Plug in headphones to your audio(headphone) jack on your computer, is the hiss still there ? if yes, the problem is not your speakers.
if no, plug your headphones to your audio interface, is the hiss still there? if so its your audio interface,
its troubleshooting. its your gear, you are going to have to find the fault in your chain.

 

Ok I try all check with wiring (power plug and cables) it seems this KRK G4 have a problem. To start with you can hear a standard hiss without nothing pluged to the monitors. This is annoying but it's someting all the serie have, I was knowing it before buying. This already is an issue because my computer is already not the more silent on earth.
But nevertheless after a few time and it can happen randomly the hiss became really too much, not regular or near the starting hiss. Last time it even happen before Windows startu up.

Im not in urban environment and have check my plug with volt meter to control intensity and wall a long time ago.
I'd use a pair of KRK 1st or 2nd generation during years without complaint but this serie is not for me.

I need to find another monitor kit for around 500€.
Do you have any recommandations?

Maybe for a 8" Adam Audio T8V (cheaper version of A8V) or Yamaha HS8, but the retail price is a little higher. You could probably get a pair second hand or b-ware from a dealer for the same price as the KRKs. But don't take my word for it and google some reviews and compare specs with ChatGPT.

 

you may have a defective unit, try returning it for a different unit.
