Many Steinie release have come with the Generic Lower Latency ASIO Driver as a seperate
install. It's useful in standalone with other VST hosts that don't their own drivers. As of late,
I have been seeing some Steinie releases with a standalone .msi installer for a Steinberg Built-In
ASIO Driver. Other than the name change, does anyone know if these are basically the same drivers?

According to Steinberg, that is not true. Both drivers have the same task, but fulfill it differently. The linked article above provides the details. Not exactly exciting, but enlightening.

 

Steinberg doesn’t have any other driver except Generic low latency…

 

ASIO still exist? The worst driver ever!

 

So what isn't the worst? Because there isn't a lot to choose from but from what there is; Core Audio (apple) or ASIO (pc) it's been proven time and again there is no real difference between the two. I have been running ASIO RME drivers for years and have yet to run into an issue that was the fault of the audio hardware interface layer.

 

Is there a specific reason are you looking to use the Generic drivers? For the best results and virtually worry free operation the recommended driver of choice "should" be the one that came with your audio hardware. I say "should" because some audio OEM's drivers are pure crap in which case you might be better spent to use one of the generics. But like anything else, if you get quality hardware you more than likely will have quality drivers as well. It pays to spend the extra ca$h for this sort of thing as every bit of your production will be running thru it.

 

to compare 2 files, simply compare the content of the two files. if they are identically, they are identically.

 

From what I read, a lot of people do that without using FL Studio itself, because that driver is allegedly better than the last ASIO4ALL one from 2022.

 

Cool.....thanks. So far the original driver has worked for me. But I use it in software only situations. But the auto sample rate conversion might come in handy.

I use this driver for testing plugins in software hosts. No hardware involved strictly ITB. When I use hardware intefaces I, of course, use quality interfaces with quality in-house drivers. I don't use cheap BS interfaces like Behringer and others that force you to use ASIO4ALL, or rebranded Ploytech drivers. But thanks for the advice.

AFAIK Ploytec works only with specific hardware, I used it in past and was great.
