What I care the most is that it needed to be powered by AAA batteries.

 

i've still got a couple of these. There is an alternative o/s - firmware that can be installed called rockbox, that circumvents some of the oem limitiations. I use that on mine.

anything with a 4g sim card slot is too new for aaa batteries.

Also, 4g connectivity will eat power. that's why those old nokia phones could last for more than a week, and your new Samsung ultra s24 mega phone with an insane battery will be empty within a day (or two).

I'm still using my old Hi-md minidisc recorder. It will run on one AA battery for about 40 hours, and I can put around 20 cd's on one 1 gig disc.

 

Thx! You made me realize that I would need two devices.
One hardware internet radio player which will be online, more stationary and dependend of electricity.
Second MP3 player which will be offline, small, portable and independent of electricity.

But if stationary and depended of electricity I don't need it.
I can listen to internet radio in my pc or in my smartphone.
I think I need to forget about internet radio in small portable mp3 player.
I hear about new types of batteries invented in China which are based of sodium, are very strong etc. but it will be at least few years before they will be mass porduced.
I need to forget about internet radio in mp3 player dream for now.

 

I mean... Since you need that much functionalities you either gotta go with the mini ones that connect to your ClownJuice® using your ear canal or the small ones that have onboard ZoOzOo™ modelisation.

Anyway, I narrowed it to the 10 best models currently available (they're all AAA batteries).

 

This is not that much functionalites.
My 20 years old MP3 have all of this except I wanted internet radio, microSD slot, better quality of internal recordings, more slots for favourite radio stations, user settings of eq, overall improvements.
But I bet now technology have regress instead of progress and everything is pumped into smartphones.

you can record streams of internet radio or youtube playlists as mp3, and put them on micro sd card to listen to on your mp3 player
i have a couple weeks of podcast and playlist saved. also audio books
