You have to let the notes become a part of you. You must be able to speak with notes. Due to the use of misleading tools, such an opportunity does not usually arise. You have to live with notes every day as long as you can.
Then you can use them in any genre you like.

"Fitting" is not only about choicing or programming the right sound, but also about the correct voice layering, orchestration and instrumentation. All of these processes complete each other to make all of the components sound good together.

A standalone vocal, kick, bass, lead, pad can sound amazingly great; but it doesn't mean that they will sound great in every single track.

If you have a decent voice layering, orchestration and instrumentation, your dull track already should sound clear without advanced mixing processes.

I once wrote a whole song called Nobos In Paradise, lyrics, melody and arrangement on a piece of cardboard while taking a shit in a toilet in the bowels of Penn Station. The first thing that I did when I got home was to take a shower.

 

very rarely I have written a "great" bass part using the piano tool in a grid editor.. the best ones are always when I listen to the drums and imagine and hear what the bass part wants to be.. then the magic comes, then the focus is ensuring what you hear in your head is what plays back from the monitors in terms of groove, feel, this is the hard part. Also remember a lot of dance bass patterns can be quite different from what you hear when analyzing them by ear, due to the sidechaining affect on the groove. especially the more hypnotic repetitive ones..

Also timing: Most pro bass grooves are NOT strictly quantized they push and pull against the grid to create movement and groove, for dance this is no 1 priority with bass and drums other then maybe kick

I wonder why no one talks about music theory.

Music theory is like money. You need money to buy anything from a store. If someone has no money but has thousands of beautiful dreams about having the goods he needs, those dreams will never come true.

Music theory is the driving force in making music. Without understanding it, nothing will happen and all goals and wishes will be futile.

 

This is possible for simple music, but never works for complex music. If you lock yourself in the bathroom for a thousand years and sit on the toilet bowl that finally your body is absorbed to the toilet bowl due to weakness and thinness, you still cannot make complex music.

In my opinion nothing replaces a person actually being able to play and understand the real instruments that they are trying to emulate, also only knowing one type of music can get stagnant and impair creativity.

 

Most of those who play musical instruments like to have a good time with their friends. These people may be able to entertain their friends or even surprise the listeners with their work by playing that musical instrument on stage, but these people cannot produce accurate music.

Accurate music is not music that a musician can produce just by playing. Accurate music is about thinking and it happens before playing. If someone stops thinking and replaces it with playing, they cannot make complex pieces.
