    also one more thing
volume automation on vocals or instruments.. important to get the midi notes velocity right..
also important to fine tune the pitch of the snare.. sometimes kick and sometimes percussion instruments.. play around with that

    great tips nonetheless

I make pop music professionally. Lots of bad takes on this thread! I would say
    1. only learn from the best - listen to the top producers + songwriters and learn their philosophies. everything else is just noise. check out the stargate videos, the ryan tedder videos, the jack antonoff videos, the jeff bhaskar uptown funk one etc. Don't just look at the production, but listen to them talk about how they think, because the way they think is the reason they're successful.
    2. analyse ref tracks. write about every layer you hear and what it's doing. do this a lot. use software to solo frequency bands, mids, sides, etc to find production layers that are not immediately obvious. if you're serious, you can transcribe parts, especially things like BGVs.
    3. melody and song is everything. everything is important, don't let people tell you lyrics aren't important, or a great mix isn't necessary. everything is important, and at the top level everything is very polished and well thought out, but melody is most important.
    4. the swedish method - don't waste time producing shit songs. when you're learning, focus on remaking songs, then remixing great songs, then working with songwriters who bring you great songs. there is no point arranging and mixing a turd, you're not improving as much as you think. better to start with someone else's song that you know is great, so if the production isn't up to standard you know it's your fault, and not the songs. even if you intend to write the songs yourself, you can hone that skill separately from the production by writing every day on voice notes.
this should be a good start :)

    Ok guys!!

I wanna thank everyone for their input. Some of you were really helpful.

I'm marking @jagctl as the best answer, because it reinforces what some members previously said, and also add a few things to the basket.
Also because i like his answer the best.
Gonna give a try on the Swedish method, it seems fit to me.

Thanks everyone again, and thank you @jagctl too

I just want to add one thing: you really don't have to and you can be established in the indie world, and never be in the top 40 and it's fine. If you are genuine, people are going to recognize that. No need to pander to the lowest denominator. Build it and they will come. Just my opinion.

Exactly, also on You Tube for example you can see on some videos where people click the most, it's mostly just skipping to the chorus or skipping some parts, have in mind that's the music they are already familiar with and still they can't be bothered.

Just one tip: Don't do it! This world has enough pop-music already, actually we have pop music for several worlds like ours.
Do something original, be an artist already!

A significant part of that 17 billion dollars is distributed among 1560 people and their supporters and the rest do not take a special share of the music market.

Being popular and producing popular music is the biggest goal in the world of music and the music economy.

If you are a musician, you must know how to work with your desired musical instruments. If you are a singer, you should do it well. If you are a music producer, you should aim to work with famous people and powerful people in the music world.

Live music performance is more profitable and investment in terms of time and learning the basics of this work should definitely be one of your priorities. Unfortunately, there is not much education in this part of YouTube, because it is a money making part of music and people working in this field do not produce much education about it.

    Reality is often a disappointment.
and then we have people like elon musk who just have so much money and again the money are used in the wrong direction.

read this The Crown: What Was Kate Middleton's Job at University? (townandcountrymag.com)

We do know a few of Kate's other jobs. Before university, she worked as a deckhand at the Ocean Village Marina in Southampton. After graduating, she was an accessory buyer for brand Jigsaw, and worked for her mom Carole Middleton's business Party Pieces.

    @Zoketula @Synclavier

Thank you guys. But i thought about this for a long time already, and I've made up my mind.
The world just gave me too many reasons to change genres. my friends, my financials, my recent change in taste

Yeah, that was probably unsolicited advice on my part. I saw later that you already figured that out for yourself. It's just I see this all the time in the YT/streaming world. Someone comes up and mimics someone else and then they become what Corey Feldman is to Michael Jackson.

i had to google that name. didn't know that kid from the goonies had a weird friendship with Michael Jackson.
Haha i see you worry for a friend. :mates: but you really shouldn't
I can take care of myself, and if this doesn't work for me i'll eventually move on
just one of those things of life you gotta try, to not keep yourself wondering "what if i did that back then?" or " I should've tried"

Let me tell you a hopeful thing. Unfortunately, those 1560 people who earn the most money in the world of music, all of them, without exception, are illiterate in terms of music. They have gained so much false fame and popularity by deceiving listeners for several years.

If you can effectively master your musical instruments and institutionalize the rules of music in a completely intelligent way, you can be above all those people.

Deceiving and lying for years is something that doesn't seem to work in today's world, but the truth is that because of the listeners' lack of knowledge about music, a pop artist can fool a lot of listeners by lying and exaggerating.

Lying about abilities and talents has always been with many artists and producers and will continue to be.

But if you can show your abilities without lying, the listeners will be attracted to you.
