CLA vox/distortion/whatever is Chris Lord-Alge or whatever his name is

CLA-2A/3A/76 is for 'Classic' compressors... or possibly Classic Leveling Amplifiers. That would make sense.

I avoid the Artist series stuff altogether because I've been producing and engineering less than two years and using someone else's presets isn't going to make me a better anything.

Edit: I looked it up. Apparently the CLA is Chris Lord-Alge's personal classic compressors (seriously?). I stand corrected, but I'l leave my misinformed post here.

I like the drum gates in CLA. I've been around audio all my life. Producer model presets are time savers. Do I know how to do some of these things in my own way. Yes, but these speed up the process if you know what you are looking for. I tend to jump around Waves. I like the JJP plug in for bass guitar, and his Pultec comp model.. I like the Maserati reverbs for vocals. A person could spend all their time just test driving these things. Presets and modeled signal processing can make things easier, and some are just damn fun (sausage fattener). FatChannel presets on my PreSonus Audiobox are great. I could not have imagined some of these things at my 1st recording session. Would have taken two closets full of rack gear and two more closets full of money to pay for it.:drummer:

    Man,

Comments like yours keep people away from the forum. Anyone wishing to create an account here, when reading such crap, thinks 'OK, if whenever I post something, someone will make me look like an idiot, I prefer staying outside '. It's sad.
If I were a moderator , a comment like yours would be banned 5 days. Do you realise maybe 10 guys won't join the forum because of your comment?

Why do people have to act like you just because they have already made a few posts? Fame?

Just imagine Cat or a mod had posted a reply after your 1st comment, something like 'hey, why you joined here? To find a boyfriend? '

Fair point (I also like Sausage Fattener!). I wasn't saying the artist series stuff is bad. Just... I'm trying to learn as much as I can right now. Flipping through presets, particularly multi-effect presets designed to cut almost all the work out of it for me, might make my track right now sound cooler, but it'll take me a longer time to master all that cool stuff myself.

Such is why I practically stopped initiating discussions. My experience hadn't been so severe, but the inability for some people to stay on-topic or not talk-down to others is something I can't abide.

Here is the first of three parts of a good interview with "CLA" himself:

I personally like his instrument and vocals plug-ins. They're thoughtfully designed to arrive simply at complicated results. They're especially magical with compression and setting things in a mix, though they also can be easily over-done. I do like arriving at such things myself, but sometimes the CLA plug-ins just hit the spot and it's a go.

By the way, the interviewer's album, Static, is really good; Chris Lord-Alge mixed some songs on it:

That sucks. I've gotten a little bit of that from time to time, but as far as I'm concerned this is one of the 'nicest' places on the net. And genuinely nice; not just because the rules say don't be rude. You should try posting on gearslutz. There's members there that just spend their day being the first to respond to questions so they can say something dickish.

As for staying on topic... That's a gray issue for me. I've always thought the "stay on topic" thing was kind of rigid and counter productive. conversations are fluid; I say let them evolve naturally. As long as the digression is not just bickering, telling people not to go off topic is a good way to kill a conversation altogether.

I would call this topic something like.. : "The Power of using Plugins right".
The power is within the way they're used, good engineers can mix an entire song just with the native plugs of a daw.

Everyone should try the CLA Bass. It really shines on DI track and make it cut through mix easily like no other! What a life saver!

Yes i am fully aware what they are! lol.
they're modelled from his LA-2A LA 3A and Urei 1176.

waves just modelled his versions, they tend to model famous engineers/musicians gear. like the REDD console is modelled after lenny kravitz redd console.

How about - It doesn't matter what freaking plugin do you use as long as you make a killer track.
I don't care if is 1176, Fatso, Crammer Tape or Logic EQ if your track it's a shit idea, no plugin in the world is gonna make it any better.
